As this vision and the area around Crested Butte were the reasons for my return (once again), it sure was great to see everything come together. Cloudless western skies with a few clouds floating over Mount Crested Butte was just perfect. It sure made up for the dud of a sunset the night before anyway... And with Lupines looking gorgeous (and relatively light winds), the scene was incredible!

I used a filtered approach on this capture by using gradient neutral density filters. And let me tell you, they rocked!! I never would have been able to get results like this (with flowers in the foreground that sharp) with HDR processing. And to me, the color looks really natural. So far, I'm really liking this filtered approach. I hope you like the results as well.

This image was taken with the last light of the day hitting Mount Crested Butte from Washington Gulch near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. And with the wildflowers at their peak of color, I was just thrilled to be able to enjoy and capture such beauty. For some reason, the wildflowers and rugged peaks of the Rocky Mountains seem to work together really well. And together, they speak so much about the beauty of Colorado. In fact for me, they're perhaps the best of the compositional components for the state. Ok so maybe I'm a little biased with my passion, but hey, there's nothing wrong with that!
